WALK BETWEEN WORLDS
Reality as we perceive it is different for each of us; our personal lens shapes our experience and influences how we view the world and beyond.
As humans, we are conditioned to label and define all things. I believe that as soon as we do this, the magic of life is diluted and its potential restricted. Perception is an ever-evolving state in which layer upon layer will be revealed if we remain open. I’m inviting the viewer to fall inside these works, to engage in their dance and to ponder the illusions they create.

Illusion of Space contains 127 individual parts. Each form is painted 7 times by hand resulting in over 850 coats of paint over all. Meticulous processes such as these are an opportunity for meditative practice, calling for presence, focus, care and patience. It’s important to me to imbue each piece with these qualities, as I believe the energy and timbre of the creative process can be sensed in the completed work. - Kate Alterio
