Canvas is Paul Maseyk’s new collection of abstract acrylic and ink paintings, offering a fresh and unexpected departure from his previous works. This exhibition showcases a vibrant array of colours, patterns, and shapes that blend the familiar with the fantastical.

Drawing inspiration from his acclaimed ceramics, Maseyk presents repeating motifs and strange, otherworldly creatures. Floating eyeballs, suspended chains, and geometric patterns come together in a visually striking and cohesive display.

This exhibition is a unique opportunity to experience Maseyk's evolution as an artist and explore a body of work that is as intriguing as it is captivating.

About the Artist

Paul Maseyk

Paul Maseyk (1974) lives and works in Ngāmotu, New Plymouth. After completing his Diploma of Ceramic Design and Production at Whanganui’s Polytechnic in 1997, he has since been the recipient of the Archie Bray Foundation of Ceramic Arts residency in Montana and the Medalta International Artist Residency in Alberta, Canada.

Paul is noted for producing ceramic works ranging from tableware to highly illustrated large sculptural pieces as well as large-scale paintings. His work is housed in numerous public collections within New Zealand, including Te Papa Tongarewa, Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Govett Brewster Art Gallery and The Dowse Art Museum.
