Linda McFetridge

Linda McFetridge is a New Zealand artist whose work explores the delicate balance between movement and stillness, certainty and change. With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Victoria University of Wellington (1993), she draws on instinct and intuition to transform vivid impressions into landscapes and abstract compositions that examine presence, memory, and perception.

Growing up on the Taranaki coast, Linda developed a deep connection to nature - an influence that remains central to her artistic practice. Her background in dance, theatre, and film informs her approach, where fluidity and structure exist in constant dialogue. Colour, texture, and contrast play a pivotal role in her work, inviting viewers to uncover quiet depths within each piece.

For Linda, painting is a way to organise the flood of thoughts and possibilities that shape her creative world. It is both an anchor and an exploration, offering clarity through the act of making. Each work serves as an invitation to pause, reflect, and step into the space in between.

The works in The Space in Between, her latest exhibition at Kingsroy Gallery, delve into the quiet, transformative moments that shape our journeys. Whether through reflections on water, solitary pauses, or paths unfolding into the unknown, these paintings navigate the tension between movement and stillness, certainty and change. With rich, vivid hues contrasting deep shadows, each piece invites the viewer to linger - to uncover subtle depths and hidden details within the landscape. This collection is a meditation on presence, transition, and the beauty found in the spaces between.
