Stockroom Curated: A Moment Between Shows | May 2025
Exhibition Opening 9th May 2025, all welcome.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Jonathan Campbell’s exhibition has been rescheduled to June. In the meantime and ahead of Kingsroy Gallery’s temporary closure in August for essential earthquake strengthening, we’re opening the doors to something rare: a curated glimpse into our stockroom.
This exhibition is both a practical and celebratory response to change. It offers a unique opportunity to experience a dynamic cross-section of works from our represented artists. Some works never-before-seen at Kingsroy, others pulled from the archive and shown anew.
Will Bennett’s vivid palette of oranges and yellows pulses with energy, injecting warmth and vitality into the gallery space. Prakash Patel’s luminous works reveal celestial and underwater realms, blurring the lines between light show and coral reef. Rohan Wealleans’ latest pieces include oversized Star Seeds, Pointy Monoliths, and colourful sculptural works that challenge spatial boundaries with their bold physicality.
Fresh from the studio and finished today, a brand-new piece by local favourite Milarky is unveiled, bursting with the artist’s trademark energy and irreverence.
The intricate cane technique of Stephen Bradbourne’s Murine glass works showcase the delicate complexity of his craft. Alongside, Paul Maseyk’s Feeding Time ceramics stand in conversation with their painted counterparts, while additional works from his archive offer a deeper view into his evolving visual language.
Suspended in the front window, the striking chandelier Kākāriki by the Crystal Chain Gang casts an otherworldly presence. Formed using their signature pressed-glass technique, this exquisite artwork captures the luminosity and boldness of Aotearoa’s natural world.
There is much more to discover. This show brings together a rich tapestry of practice, medium, and voice. It is a rare and fleeting moment to see so many distinct works in one space before they return to storage or back to the artists’ studios.
Come in, take your time, and enjoy the unexpected.
